Oh, isn’t it ironic?

This is what women would be if the video game industry had anything to say about. Oh, but she’d be holding a frying pan with one of her vaginas.

There is a brutal irony in this blog’s existence. I founded, and started writing it, because I was sick of the way that women are treated in games and online in general. I was inspired by the marginalization nerd ladies are forced to feel, regardless of how many of us are actually in the room. I felt all of this outrage and inspiration while I was researching and writing my thesis regarding women and video games, during which time I found that my personal observations weren’t hallucinations. The industry really just doesn’t care that it marginalizes 42% of its player-base. The 58% of video game players who are still male are worth marketing to, solely, using bare breasts and objectification.

The irony, of course, is that the majority of views on this blog are the result of a single post I made, making fun of the things which show up in tandem to this blog during a Google search. People arrive at this blog, from all over the world, with search terms such as “video game vaginas,” “video games with vaginas in them,” “vagina games.” I’m probably making a few assumptions, but these terms suggest to me that the people who end up at this blog are the ones most enjoying the objectification which so infuriates me.

I found this on the internet by Googling vagina connoisseurs.

I suppose this could be a gift of sorts. Perhaps my purpose is to enlighten these poor, misguided, barely-English-speaking individuals from across the globe about feminism and equality. Perhaps I should be thankful anyone is reading my words at all. Perhaps my niche is simply one which caters to vagina connoisseurs.

P.S. – No matter how many times I see it, I cannot spell connoisseurs without spell check. Not even when it’s written directly above where I’m typing.
